Before you start creating a sales account on Amazon, make sure you know why you're choosing to build your online business through this platform. Are you aware of the pros and cons of Amazon versus selling on bol.com? And have you also looked into the possibilities of dropshipping or simply starting your own webshop?

There are several ways to set up a successful e-commerce business. Of course, it's essential that you don't hesitate for too long and make a decision so you can get started. But make sure you make that decision after you've informed yourself about the different options. This way, you'll avoid doubting your choice later on! Once you've made your choice and want to become an Amazon seller, it's time to move forward! Because challenges... they'll always be there. That's just part of being an entrepreneur!

To become an Amazon seller, you need a KvK registration

If you're already an entrepreneur, you can skip this step. Are you just starting your entrepreneurial journey? Then it's essential to register with the KvK. Without a KvK number, you can't create an Amazon sales account.

Registering your business with the KvK costs a one-time fee of €50. Don't worry if you're not sure what to name your business yet; you can always change it online later! You could choose a simple, general name, like [First letter of your first name + first letter of your last name + E-commerce]. Under this 'general name,' you can always add specific branches of your business later on.

Selling on Amazon with a sales account

Now that you're registered with the KvK, you can start selling on Amazon by creating a sales account. During this process, you'll also determine which sales plan suits you best. With an individual plan, you pay €0.99 per sold product to Amazon. With a professional plan, you pay a standard fee of €39 per month, regardless of how many products you sell.

Note: with both options, you'll pay a commission per sold product in addition to the sales plan costs. These commissions range from 7% to 15% of the selling price you set, depending on the type of product.

Purchasing and shipping products as an Amazon seller

To see your first euros flow into your bank account, it's crucial that you have something to sell. A vital part of being a successful Amazon seller is purchasing products from a supplier.

Once you've purchased your products, you'll face a new decision: will you ship the ordered products from home or choose Fulfillment By Amazon? If you choose the latter, Amazon will take care of storage, shipping, and customer service for you. This option is often chosen later on, once the foundation of your business is solid.

Is selling on Amazon complicated?

You might feel that selling on Amazon is complicated after reading the information above. And that's despite thinking it was an easy way to earn money!

Be aware that (online) entrepreneurship always comes with challenges. This includes selling on platforms like Amazon and bol.com. If it were easy, everyone would do it!
