More than stock

Quarter 4 has kicked off, and that means it's time to focus on getting your inventory in order before the holiday season starts. Good inventory management is key to maintaining a clear overview and maximizing your sales. But what else is important, besides getting your inventory in order, to come out on top in Q4?

In this Value Bomb, you'll read about 5 key success factors that deserve your attention.

1. What holidays are there, actually? πŸŽ…

Basic, but important. Because certain products in your assortment can be very relevant for specific moments. Of course, Black Friday is fairly general and relevant for many products, but what about Singles Day, for example? Get to know the holidays and determine which products deserve extra attention.

  1. Singles Day on November 11
  2. Black Friday on November 25 (peak starts on November 18)
  3. Cyber Monday on November 28 (part of Black Friday)
  4. Sinterklaas (also take into account shoe gifts in the run-up to it!)
  5. Christmas (the run-up to it)
  6. New Year's

2. Optimize everything you can πŸ“ˆ

Optimize your product listings. Pay extra attention to clear images and make sure your product descriptions cater to the specific need of your target audience during the holidays. Yes, the holidays are a potential goldmine, but your competitor knows this too. If there's one moment to not drop the ball when it comes to a complete, solid, and customer-need-focused product listing, it's Q4!

3. Eliminate as many customer questions as possible ❓

More traffic in the bol.com online shopping street means more potential customer questions (+50%) and a higher chance of returns. That's simply the downside of busy times. At the same time, this is where smart entrepreneurs can take action in advance. Review the return reasons from previous returns and analyze the most frequently asked customer questions. Adjust your product information accordingly and differentiate yourself from your competitor.

When scoring gifts, not every customer has the time or inclination to search for or wait for answers to their questions. The clearer the benefits, functionality, specifications, and dimensions of your product (and once again, the benefits!), the higher the chance of an optimal conversion rate and minimal customer service afterwards.

Time management: Do prepare for extra customer questions. You can't completely avoid them, and that's okay. Reserve time for this or ensure clear expectations among your team members.

4. Good contact with your supplier(s) 🀝

Your supplier plays a crucial role in your success during the holidays (and, of course, the rest of the year). Clear communication ensures realistic expectations. For example, you want to have your inventory for the holidays in early November and have clarity on this by the end of summer.

Chinese New Year: The Chinese New Year starts on January 22, 2023. It sounds fun, and it is, in China. For you, it means you can't place orders for two weeks, and the weeks that follow will be extremely busy and delayed. Annoying? It's simply part of the deal. You can even make use of it!

Show interest and understanding for your supplier. Also, consider sending a gift or token of appreciation to your supplier in advance. Culture is important in China, and your understanding of this can lead to a more pleasant and beneficial collaboration. 100% handy for the future!

5. Dive into bol.com marketing πŸ’Έ

Promotions: Bol.com is already a powerful marketing machine, but during the holidays, it's even more so. If you meet the right conditions, you can participate in promotions as a seller. In your account, you'll automatically see which promotions you can join. With a competitive promotion price, your margin might be lower, but you know what they say... volume is money.

Product families and volume discounts: Not all marketing tools will be relevant to your product range. Make sure you know what's available! Only by reading up on the 'sales boosters' you can use, can you consciously decide what's interesting for your business. You'd rather not miss out on opportunities, especially not in Q4!

Yes, inventory management is key, but don't be that guy who forgets the big picture.
